The Kennel Club created the Accredited Breeder
Scheme [ABS] as a standard for Breeders of pedigree dogs to aspire to. The
scheme promotes breeders who have a well established knowledge and experience in
their chosen breed over some years and to have shown to have bred sound stock.
The scheme also safe guards the interests of
purchasers of pedigree puppies, guiding them to reputable breeders when seeking
a well bred puppy.
An ABS breeder will give guidance and advice not
only through the puppy stage but as a lifelong commitment throughout the dogs
life.
You should always view a litter along with the
mother. Be provided with a Pedigree, Kennel Club registration and a Contract of
Sale, a feeding regime and guidelines as to care and training as appropriate to
the breed. Be advised to seek medical advice as to vaccination and also taking
out pet insurance.
The Kennel Club will provide a list of ABS
breeders which may also be viewed on the Kennel Club website:
